because on halloween he likes to gather whoever in the family is available and pour everyone drinks and light a cigar and take speakers out onto the front porch and blast the grateful dead while mocking teenagers and adults…

So the final paper in my writing seminar is a research paper. We can write it on any musical we so choose…and as it happens, I so choose Rent. Because Rent. But I didn’t know what, exactly, I was going to write about Rent…UNTIL TODAY.
We started talking about Rent in class (we’re discussing it and Next to Normal in this last unit, but papers can be about whatever we want), and Georgia gave us an interesting background tidbit that I had never heard. Apparently, when Rent was first premiering, the internet was just becoming the internet we know and love, and the fan community that sprouted up around Rent was one of the first big fandoms to originate on the internet.
SO MY PAPER. I’m going to talk about the fan community Rent inspired, and fan communities in general, and how this connects to the idea of found families as portrayed in the musical itself. BASICALLY I AM WRITING A PAPER ABOUT FANDOM AND NAKAMA, MY TWO FAVORITE THINGS.
UGH I DON’T WANT TO FINISH MY COMPANY PAPER
I JUST WANT TO WRITE THIS ONE NOWWWW~
Haha, all the freaking time. I fit the Bi The Way trope so perfectly.
… MY OTP IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO BEING CANON.
In other news, this was my life once. Now just change “bisexual” to “a gay.”
…Are you saying what I think you’re saying here?
(<3 <3 <3 my life is so fabulous)
Do any of my followers know Gilmore Girls? I’ve been killing time today watching random Jess episodes (Jess is my favorite forever and ever amen end of discussion <3) and I’ve noticed something. It might be my screwed up brain hopped up on too many angsty ridiculous group dynamics, but…
…
Fuck yes. So much, Abbey. Please please please write a Rory/Jess/Dean fanfic????!!!
Ahaha, oh god, I forgot I posted this. XD I’m glad you liked it, though. I’m kind of stuck on this idea mentally. I have started this one fic…kind of playing with what happens in the dance marathon episode, mostly centered around the idea that after the Dean/Rory break-up, Jess runs into Dean while he’s looking for Rory.
Because, see, I have this theory (don’t mind me, just mapping out my thoughts) about the whole set-up. The love triangle was established when Jess came around and started agitating Rory and Dean’s relationship. (From what I can see, he’s not doing this just for obtaining Rory, getting a rise out of Dean is clearly at least half the point, but that’s another story.) So he keeps putting pressure on them, and they have this really weird, tense three-way relationship, until he manages to wedge them apart at the dance marathon. What happens there is that Dean flips out and removes himself completely - he gives up on Rory, gives up on Jess, cuts his losses and storms out. Then Jess and Rory kind of awkwardly get together without discussing at all what just happened (they both made mistakes, but they don’t let themselves reflect and mature, which sets them up for the same mistakes in the future). The love triangle is broken at this point. Jess and Rory are together, and Dean isn’t trying to be with Rory anymore…so the window is shut. It would take a lot to get them back to a place where they could ever consider what they all mean to each other, what could have happened all along.
But if Jess found Dean instead of Rory…if they could have one interaction where they can’t pretend that Rory is the definition of their relationship, because she’s not standing there watching…then the triangle wouldn’t be broken. It’d take a lot of confusion and anger and maybe they’d fall apart just a little bit, but. There’d be a chance. And eventually I think they could come back together.
But I can’t do it because some of my videos are of un-original content.
But seriously, DAY MADE.
Wait okay you make videos on youtube? What’s your channel name? I feel like I should have known this…
